Why meat sheep?

Unless you need the wool, or the wool price makes it worth selling, it may be unwise to run sheep that require annual shearing.

Wool can be a disease risk, being more conducive to lice and fly strike.

Annual shearing costs time and money.

Producing wool uses more of a sheep's resources, which are removed from your pasture when the wool is taken away.

Hair and shedding sheep breeds taste as good if not better than wool sheep.

That is why there is currently fast growth in the hair and shedder breeds.

In Australia, hobby farm and small holding paddocks are filled with wiltipolls, dorpers and wiltshire horns.

Unless the wool price increases greatly, don't expect that to change.
