Charollais Sheep

Post by Shepherd » Tue Jan 02, 2018 3:34 am

The Charollais makes wool but is included here because it is a heavy sheep with a long loin and well muscled hindquarters.

They originated in the 1800s from a cross with British Leicester and local landrace breeds.

The Charollais is medium sized with clean head. The wool is fine to medium and dense.

The Charollais is used primarily as a terminal sire to increase the muscle and growth rate of lambs.

They are the second most popular terminal sire in the UK.

Distribution is Europe, United Kingdom and North America.
