Rideau sheep are one of three Canadian breeds, emanating from Suffolk, Shropshire and Dorset breeds, combined with Finnish Landrace and East Friesians.
Since 1989, the breed's popularity has grown rapidly. Rideau sheep can be used to improve maternal traits within a flock.
About half of Rideau ewes have three lambs and 40 per cent have twins.
Distribution is North America.
